Notes: The following portion of an article is on file in the Salem County (NJ) Historical Society, 79-83 Market Street, Salem, NJ 08079, as told by Miss Miriam Thorp, ggdaughter of this James` son James (1768-1840), 520 Kings Highway, Swedesboro, NJ, "He married a woman named Sarah Helms, a Swede by birth, by whom he had two sons and two daughters. (By a second marriage, three sons and four daughters.) The eldest James is the one whose lineage we are interested in. He being my grandfather. He married a woman named Mary Harris, of Gloucester County, where he settled and remained until after the birth of his son Harris, who was the third son. Then he moved into Salem County having bought a farm on the old road leading from Sculltown to the Biddal`s Tavern, (where the township business was transacted) and one half mile from the former place." (see full article under James` father)

Burial information conflicts with Cemetery Records on file at the Salem Co Historical Society which has him buried at the Woodstown Baptist. As James` wife, Mary (Harris) Flanagin is shown to be buried at Woodstown, I believe James to be buried there also. (NOTE: this statement may be wrong...it is probably his son, James, that is the continued member of the Baptist Church at Roadstown). Either James or his wife Mary died out in the field (the document is not clear which one).

"History of Gloucester, Salem & Cumberland Counties" by Cushing & Sheppard originally published in 1883. Information received from Virginia & Richard Keller, PO Box 1211, Forked River, NJ 08731. "James continued his father`s pursuits as a farmer in Salem County. He was united in marriage to Miss Mary HARRIS, whose ancestors were of Swedish extraction, and had eight children" (probably nine - one dying in infancy).

Lived in Auburn, Salem Co, NJ

2/24/03: There is a question that he might have married a Catherine ? before Mary Harris and John & James are her children-not Mary`s. No proof either way.

On the 1793 NJ Tax List for Woolrich Twp. (Swedesboro), Gloucester Co, NJ
