From Tennessee Cousins: Joseph Beeler, Sr. came from Virginia and settled in Grainger County, and was the father of Jacob Beeler, who was born in 1804 and who married a niece of Gen. Benjamin Cleveland, Nancy the daughter of Martin Cleveland, who lived in Grainger County, a brother of Robert and Benjamin Cleveland. Joseph C. Beeler, son of Jacob and Nancy, was born November 29, 1832, Nancy died in 1884. Joseph went to Carson-Newman, and was Superintendent of the Schools of Jefferson County. He was a merchant in Grainger County for some time. His wife was Addie Hickle, the daughter of Calvin Hickle, and she was born in Knox County.

The following reference and others that point to this Joseph Beeler, though published, is not accurate. The Joseph and Jacob Beeler at King`s mountain were the sons of Ulrich and Maria Elizabeth Buhler. See Tennessee Ancestors, Vol 10 (3) December 1994, article titled JOSEPH BEELER AT KING`S MOUNTAIN. From The King`s Mountain Men: Jacob and Joseph were under Colonel Shelby. Jacob received a pension in Sullivan county, 1832. Joseph moved to Grainger county. His son Jacob married Nancy, a daughter of Martin Cleveland, brother to Robert and Colonel Benjamin of Revolutionary fame. Joseph, son of Jacob went to Jefferson county and married Addie Hickle. Descendants are in Grainger and Jefferson.
